MARECHIARO Boat excursion Vento in Poppa
EXCURSION DESCRIPTION
Starting from Marechiaro, a small fishing village, the boat excursion allows you to reach the submerged park of Gaiola continuing navigation respecting the limits of the buoys we find the remains of a Roman building called the Palazzo degli Spiriti, which some also call the Villa di Virgilio , claiming that from time to time the spirit of the Poet manifests itself and swearing to have heard his verses declaim from a mysterious voice. In fact, Virgil actually stayed in Pousilypon, in the villa built at the extreme tip of Posillipo by Publio Vedio Pollione, a very rich man and close friend of the emperor Augustus, a grandiose complex, large and articulated, whose structures stretched between Marechiaro and the Cala di Trentaremi. Immediately after we find the Gaiola faced by three islets of which the largest is the Gaiola. In front of the islet as well as the statue of St. Francis, patron saint of the island, on the rock according to an ancient and deeply rooted tradition we find the ruins that can be seen on the nearby Gaiola beach are still known as the "School of Virgil". Always navigating towards the extreme tip of Capo Posillipo, known as the horse, the tuff block opens up offering the vision of the grandiose natural amphitheater of Trentaremi, an impressive vision for the width and height of the yellow tuff walls overlooking the sea . Continuing the navigation going down and going up the Posillipo hill from the sea a little further beyond the cala di maisto, on the rocks of southern Italy there is a small tower where there is a spring of mineral water, seeing it you realize that you have arrived in one of the places richest in history in Posillpo, you can in fact admire the villa Baracco, of a pompean red color and shortly after, immersed in the trees, Villa Rosbery, the Neapolitan residence of the president of the republic.
Opposite the rock of salt stone indicates what, due to a play of currents, is a stretch of sea that is always crystalline. After the tip of Capo Posillipo we find a delightful Rivafiorita corner, and for the couch potatoes of the soop-opera "a place in the sun" a careful look at a seventeenth-century fortress, purchased in 1884 by Raffaele Volpicelli, who had it transformed into a villa, while preserving , in keeping with the taste of the time, its castle appearance. And as soon as a few meters away we find the magnificent inlet of Cenito immediately after villa Gallotti and a series of nineteenth-century villas, including villa Lauro formerly villa Pierce, villa Emma, in the upper Piazza Salvatore di Giacomo and church of Santa Maria di Bellavista, villa Elisa and Villa d'Abro, Villa Roccaromana and, in the upper Piazza S. Luigi, Villa Pavoncelli and Villa of the Prince of Angri. And then, in all its charm, you can admire Palazzo Donn'Anna built by Cosimo Fanzago for Princess Anna Carafa (wife of the Spanish viceroy). Finally, returning to Marechiaro we stop to admire the famous Fenestella di Marechiaro, a poem by Salvatore di Giacomo set to music by Tosti, remembered by a plaque in a house near the cliff.
Please note: if you want to reach Marechiaro by car or your own means, consult the Ztl Marechiaro road network. We add that when the Ztl is active in the summer you will find a traffic light🚦 which will indicate if there is a parking space or a motorbike available before getting off in the
garage Marechiaro 🅿️ (via Marechiaro n.85) which, once you have passed through and reached the parking lot, will register you and download the license plate directly to the Municipality of Naples.
